I was going to post a couple of images and got hit with wordPress.com’s new editor which seems to have been lurking in the background since 2018.
I seem to recall this sort of change happening several years ago with the same outcry; can’t be bothered working out how to use the new ‘Block Editor’ so will post some music (still have a link for classic editor from years ago)ย and wait for the dust to settle.
I’m glad I’m not the only one struggling with this! I haven’t posted for a while, and was looking forward to starting again but I just can’t get my head around these awful “Blocks”.. feels like trying to sew with mittens on..;)
I used the W.Press admin route that I saved from a few years ago when they last did a major break of the system. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, but every few years WP forget.
Yes, the WordPress change came as a painful and time consuming surprise. I’ll struggle through until i decide it is not worth the hassle.
If even WordPress.org is complaining, it might make them think the work around via the site admin route, can be left but don’t tell anyone. New users will just not get the option and be non the wiser.
I surely will follow!
I use the (old) classic editor also. Seems many of us do.
I sympathise as my philosophy is…..if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it (i.e WordPress stop updating software). Unfortunately, I don’t have much in the way of computer skills, so take the easiest way out ๐
Since I’m not really blogging at the moment, or reading much, due to both shoulders having torn ligaments and severe bursitis and I’m nearly run out of WordPress media library room (again), I’m tempted to find a new blogging platform for when I get back to regular posting. We’ll see how my arms/shoulders are in another week or two, but the 1st cortisone injection yesterday has worked it’s magic (hence my typing this morning).
Thanks for the links. I particularly enjoyed the second one – Arvo Part. It gentle peaceful sound reminded me of a soundtrack I downloaded from Epidemic Sound music library. Now if I could only work out how to get that onto my blog ๐
I am sure you remember the last major changes WordPress did, they ignored rhe user then and will do again.
If you do move, be sure to let us know and get well soon (that’s an order ! ๐)

Thanks David. Both shoulders have improved, but still can’t reach high, low or at certain angles without discomfort, but the first cortisone injection helped a lot. Starting to type some more today. I notice scrolling with the computer mouse is not good, but most other actions are just fine as long as I vary them throughout the day.
I’m pleased that you are feeling a little better, these things end up being one step at a time, I’m sure you’re fed-up hearing that. I had serious spurs in the 5th and 6th vertebrae and it took 5 years (UK) with several injections, finally a very good Indian doctor in Muscat who operated after showing me the problem via two CT scans, fixed me.
Hence I have a little understanding of what you are going through.
Try this: Posts>Add New>Drop Down>Classic.
Thanks.
Why do they do these changes, a bit like supermarkets; get orientated and then they move everything.
It’s horrible isn’t it David, but there is a workaround. Just look for the classic block or copy an old post ( this is what I do ) and then edit that.
Also this might help https://inmyrealife.wordpress.com/2020/10/02/im-not-a-happy-bunny/ or this https://eccentric99.wordpress.com/2020/10/02/talking-images-66-the-wordpress-block-editor-not-for-me/
Thanks Helen, but past experience tells me that wordpress will close all work arounds eventually and their ‘classic block’ is (at the moment) not as flexible.
There is a ‘classic editor’ block you can select as the first thing you do in the new editor after the title. Press the ‘+’, type ‘classic’ in the search box that appears, select the ‘Classic’ option offered. Everything the classic editor normally shows appears with the familiar menu at the top of that block, so you can carry on drafting your post as comfortably as normal.
Hope that helps to get us back to image posting!
Thanks for that – but if I recall from years ago, it will soon be blocked: such is WordPress.
I can’t see much reason for them to do so, David. It’s a separate and working block option, just like all of the other block plug-in options they’ve introduced, and will add to, in this new editor.
It’s there as a choice to use at present and, unlike the other way round (where the block editor was a necessary thing to do to introduce new things that ‘Classic’ couldn’t handle, even though the improving web browser technology allows so much more), there’s no reason to take it away now they’ve made it a working optional block in the new one.
I am the glass half-full to your half-empty on this perhaps!
Hi Bear,
I’m a pessimist or rather, I should say an optimist with experience when it comes to wordpress.com.
Still, they do keep us on our toes ๐
Ah, my friend, I know what you mean…
Thank you for both Allegri and Pรคrt. ๐
They are my fall-back when feeling fed-up..
…and that is definitely the feeling of the days…
Very true.
