Thanks, actually it is part of the Jebel Akhdar mountain range: I could not get into a position where it was below the horizon. Gave up in the end before I fell back down the hill I was perched on. I don’t think it detracts from the overall composition ..?
Yes I can see what you mean when I try and look without previous knowledge: the rock in the foreground is very chocolate brown and the range is a medium grey so the minus blue filter has given it more emphasis I think.

Also, many needed a rope, which was pulled up after entry.
Yes, they are rather synonymous with Oman: most villages will have at least one on a prominent hill.
Goes back to the days when thing were rather tribal and some what war like.
