Thanks – I often wonder how long these bits of wood have been there: I did stand in what was the remains of a forest that had been exposed when the sand moved. It last stood up-right well over 45 million years ago (it was the highlight of a rather difficult desert crossing) great fun 🙂
That must have been fun! My oldest forest remnant experience is in the intertidal zone with 8,000 year old stumps that were drowned by rising sea levels. That is pretty cool too, but nothing like 45 mya.
