I do see what you mean: but it was definitely built as a house. Must have been quite spectacular when it was in its prime because there is the remains of an extensive garden.
The problem for the original occupants: it is rather isolated and raiding by warring tribes was not uncommon !
What a fabulous spot. That doorway gives it a real local signature, otherwise it could be in southern Europe somewhere.
