“Stick to the forest-track, keep your spirits up, hope for the best, and with a tremendous slice of luck you may come out one day and see the Long Marshes lying below you, and beyond them, high in the East, the Lonely Mountain where dear old Smaug lives, though I hope he is not expecting you”. (Gandalf) J.R.R Tolkien.
by this breakthrough that we see at the very end, we can think that this path goes thus to infinity
In the mind, it does.
I love all of Tolkien’s work, and his description of Mirkwood has always captivated me; I love deep, dark forests. You have no idea how much I wish I could join in the wood elves’ merrymaking, although I’d probably humiliate myself, because I’m sure their drinks are too strong for a mortal 😀
Yes, his ability to produce, what I can only describe as ‘mind pictures’ with his writing was exceptional.
It certainly was: Tolkien was one of the greatest authors of all time.
Gandalf knows! 😉
Beautiful path, my dear friend! 🙂
Thank you Marina, J.R.R.T’s books have been long time favourites.
The quote seemed appropriate for this time of trial and tribulation.
It was!!!
As for Gandalf… he passed by my page too today, greeting a sunrise! 😉
Beautifully captured sense of place.
Thank you Louis, I always think of Mirkwood when ever I walk in this area.
It is only a shortish walk from where I now live. We are lucky (so far) that our local authorities preserve these places.
As a matter of interest, even our garden has preservation orders on some of its trees.
