Mirkwood ?.

“Stick to the forest-track, keep your spirits up, hope for the best, and with a tremendous slice of luck you may come out one day and see the Long Marshes lying below you, and beyond them, high in the East, the Lonely Mountain where dear old Smaug lives, though I hope he is not expecting you”. (Gandalf) J.R.R Tolkien.

  1. I love all of Tolkien’s work, and his description of Mirkwood has always captivated me; I love deep, dark forests. You have no idea how much I wish I could join in the wood elves’ merrymaking, although I’d probably humiliate myself, because I’m sure their drinks are too strong for a mortal 😀

    1. Thank you Louis, I always think of Mirkwood when ever I walk in this area.
It is only a shortish walk from where I now live. We are lucky (so far) that our local authorities preserve these places.
As a matter of interest, even our garden has preservation orders on some of its trees.
